Cape Verde
Day 128 - 8 November 2005
Mixed level course

so today 3 more kids showed up and closer to “on time” than yesterday. now I have a total of 8 kids, all but 3 are upperclassmen in high school with two already graduated and one poor young 13 year old. he’s a true level zero that I thought would make up my entire class. and after class today a grown man asked if he could be in my class and cleared it with the director. what a makeup eh? and guess what the epitome of WTF? is today. the one kid who I KNEW I had to keep an eye on already took this same course last year! WTF? I saw a copy of his diploma on one of the computers! ah HEEELL nah! well I’m not adjustin my lesson plans for him, not for nobody! maybe I’ll just have him and whatever other more advanced kids help teach the young’n since the language barrier won’t be there between them. so my first lesson went pretty well and I got them to fill out a li’l survey with their personal info to practice typing and using Word. that’s how I wanna teach, by giving exercises, then helping them along the way, not by standing in front, lecturing and playing the constant clueless stare down game with 45 blank faces. I’m so glad I’m not a teacher. funny how this mixed level course reminds me of this one session in training. wow, maybe it wasn’t at pointless as I once perceived.
