Day 113 - 24 October 2005 Hiking thru pine forests before I begin with the pine forests, I have to give 2 thumbs up for espitatas (pork skewers) & fries to my household. we sure know how to work that meat! (and potatoes!) so the roomie & I again try to tackle a hike down into the ribeira where our friends live in the north and take a car up to the peak in between us and find a path through a beautiful pine forest. (can you say pacific forestlands?) after a good 4 hours of hiking down a super fun dixi into beautiful cliffside terraced farmland, we ask around only to find out there is no way to get all the way down to the vila below. so the locals tell us. unfortunately the information isn’t consistent along the way from the folks we kept tryin until we really couldn’t find a way down ourselves. after the dead end, we take a snack break and enjoy the few from still halfway up the mountain. unfortunately to get down we need to go back up to the road and catch a car down. how painful that can be...so after our hike to nowhere, we get into town 2 hours early (to make up for the last late arrival) and head straight to the Shell to grab some Pirate beers- YARRRRR!!! where be me alkee’ol? ah yes, there it be! YARRRRR!!! again had a li’l game night that night with the other folks in town and I of course was a bartender of sorts for the one guy drinkin. made some pizzas and hit up a town party for the 70th anniversary of a local musician. (he’s famous in that town I guess?) this is also the weekend I discover the BOBRA (squash) it’s HUGE! can be up to 3 feet long and a foot in diameter! I pick a medium sized one and parmesan it up! sooooo good. will prolly be makin that a lot for any and all vegetarians... so I catch a boleia home and the driver asks me a few questions along the hour long ride home. of course once I tell him I live in my city, he wants to know if I live with a Caboverdiana. to his disappointment I answer no, just an American colleague. he gets into how the women here must be all over me cuz I’m branco and yadda yadda yadda. I say that’s not the case, unfortunately...hahaha...of course that statement isn’t entirely true I guess. sure was nice to get a free ride back home. so I hit up the cyber café and I think I’m startin to get close to uploadin my site. hopefully it’ll be up soon... <--- lazy, crazy                Halloween pizza --->
