Day 99 - 10 October 2005 roomie’s bday so today was my roomie’s bday, and was another 9 hour affair of sorts. so after his class, we head straight to a restaurant for some birthday breakfast katxupa and drinks. and then the day continues, just like that. minus the breakfast katxupa. lots of chillin, walkin around town, talking to random folks on the street. sayin hi to friends and just bein outside and around town. so we go strong all day long. we sat out without a doubt. and then for some reason we end up in our neighborhood and decide to head home for a poddy break. and after I answer the call of nature I end up takin a break to lie down on my bed for a few minutes. two hours later I wake up and realize it’s prolly been a while. the roomie, noticing I’ve passed out, checks his email and writes a few as I continue to doze, telling his buddies that he thinks I died. luckily I just a$$ed out. so when I wake up, we head out for more fun as the night is just beginning. run into more of his friends on the street, telling everybody it’s his bday along the way. so we head to the far side of town and hit all the usual places on the way back. we end up at a place on the praça right by our house and chop it up with two guys in Kriolu. one guy from the island next door speaks pretty good English, while the other (and much more under the influence) ends up getting into a discussion about how Americans here are just like Europeans, but don’t worry, my roomie set him straight. by the end, we all understood each other and had another beer together. funny thing I notice for the first time- I speak so much better in other languages after a few drinks, or at least everybody I speak to seems to understand me better. coincidence?
