Day 81 - 22 September 2005 week 1 @ "work" as i show up this past week to my youth center, i think to myself- i'll just type responses to emails i'm 2 months behind on answering. and so i do. for the past 5 days, i've come to my "work" and have struggled to communicate with my director and other folks who work there for a short time each day, then retreat straight back to the computer lab to type responses to the few (hundred) emails i've received and not yet responded to. every now & then a kid or two come in and say bom dia or buenos dias or just stare at the new fixture in the lab- me. touch typing seems to get everybody's attention since everybody here is a hunter & pecker at best. i guess it's a good thing my center doesn't have internet cuz who knows how long i’d sit in that room and not associate with anybody. so much for joinin this org. to get away from technology. that's ok i guess cuz "i love technologyyyyyy... " it's so quiet around town cuz school's still out for summer and most kids are back home in the fora. but they'll all be back next week when school "starts". apparently there’s a good week of 'show up if you can' mentality for students here in town, and actual teaching doesn't begin until next month. that's fun...wonder if kids cut school to hang out at my center? hahaha...guess i’ll find out soon enough...so how excited am i to hear that my director wants me to da aulas informáticas e ingles? (computer & english classes) not so much at first...we'll see how that goes i guess...i just have fresh memories of model schools during training and how difficult they were, as they will be here with my lack of communication skills. i’m sure my outlook on that will change as i converse more with my colleagues here. at least my director is super chill- it pays to be in a place where confrontation doesn't really exist. it should be fun bein the most direct person in a land of passive people. <--- what a week                the li’l things ---> |
