Day 34 - 6 August 2005 Tocatina = FESTA! today was the big festa with the families down at the center. all the trainees cooked somethin American and all the fams cooked suntin CVean. soooo much good food. there were a bunch of pizzas, lasagnas, chips ‘n dips, guacamole, a spinach herb spread, different kids of pastas, one of which I made- a penne chorizo gouda bake...worrrrrrd. and of course all the traditional CVean dishes like katxupa, xeren, caldo de pexi, baked chicken wings...and now I’m hungry. OH! and the desserts! the baked goods! Oh My Gooooooo’ness...there were 2 apple cobblers, chocolate mousse, a chocolate meringue pie, CVean couscous, different kinds of freshly baked cookies. I just couldn't get enough. good thing was, there are no lines here in CV, so you just push your way up to the table and bcuz of this I couldn’t get to everything I wanted, which was probably a good thing considering I had to be rolled home afterwards. so my family came about 2 hours late and everybody had already started dancing when mom put her platter of food down on the table. I think she was a li’l disappointed that folks didn’t flock to her food. all good, it was basically done later on after we all danced the traditional batuk with the drummers goin crazy and the kids pullin in all of us uncoordinated ‘mercans. good times were had by all though and my 4 year old princess of a sister was a hit with my buddies. I had the cutest one there and she sat on my shoulders for a good hour or so. she even chose to hang out with me instead of her host sister from last year who just kept buggin me cuz my mom the prankster apparently keeps tellin her that I’ve learned the language faster than they did last year. what an instigator mom is...crazy momma... <--- quisno's, singin & shwank                 "studyin" ---> |
