Cape Verde
Day 25 - 28 July 2005
teachin english & tummy ache

practicin teachin = good experience. tryin to get kids involved in class = not so much a good experience. it’s great to have actual teachers observing classes, and tellin us what we should do/not to in the future (since we’re all basically teachers). so I’ve realized that I can write seemingly bomb lesson plans and either a) not follow them or b) bomb the bomb or c) adjust them over the duration of the class for the better. apparently teachin english here doesn’t inspire creativity, only regurgitates information through demonstration and copyin. how different. could also be that younger ages just need that first. it sure isn’t fun lookin at 45 blank faces. oh, and there’s 45 students per class! that’s just insane...understandable, but still insane...at least my partner & I pulled it through. she’ll be a perty good teacher out there on her own. I have some stuff to work on in terms of talkin more to the large class and encouraging more participation. I just hate talkin to folks with that "dumb it down for them" voice. ay nako. so model school ended every night with a beer (for nearly everybody) or two as lesson plans only came second to the bar time. works for me and 20-odd something other folks...discovered a limão twisted beer that hides the not so desirable taste of the regular. (am I a beer snob? probably...I miss stouts, microbrews, and cabs, pinots, & L.I.T.’s) oh well, a 2 year break ain’t hurt nobody. Fanta it is...how crazy is that? I got into Fanta at home and it’s a MAJOR bebida here. DES-TI-NY is all I gotta say...now to make some sangria. wanna know what sucks? drama...for no apparent reason. period. so friday ended with a 10 hr long tummy ache from lunchtime till midnight and I just kept emptyin minutes after I’d fill up with food. I tried sleepin but was in so much pain I just kept rollin over ‘n over in bed. rough it was...but eventually I hit the sack...and hard. and made it to the big city the next day for some sweating and internet.
