Cape Verde
Day 12 - 15 July 2005
São Domingos - lingua , grogu & pulisia

lingua lingua lingua! Kriolu to the max...our lingua teacher is the bomb! he’s so animated and speaks so well and doesn’t know a word of english...talk about immersion. he even took us to his house to work on vocab for things in the home. he has a PHATTY house, especially compared to a lot of the homes around here in the fora (country). great guy though, speaks sooo fast, which is good to get us used to it.
one our fellow trainees lives at the monkey bar right across the street from our school, so a bunch of us end up there every day after school just to have a beer before the walk home. it’s good times although I’m not really stickin up to my goin dry promise to myself. I’m gettin a feel of what the alcs are like here just to know before I’m out there on my own. the hard stuff of choice is the local grogu which is like a low quality and/or super strength rum distilled from sugar cane. it’s smells nasty, and tastes like fire, but after 2 shots and 70 CVE (about 80 cents), I’m pretty much done...after tastin this stuff two days in a row after school, I’m pretty much done touchin it too. and the beer here- wow it’s terrible. I’d give anythin for a bud light right now- how sad...at least it makes it easy to not order it. goin dry is gonna be easier than I thought... :-)
so twice this week my dad has caught me on the walk home and carted me off in the back of the pulisia SUV. (I didn’t even know he was a cop until my lingua prusor told me earlier this week.) it’s pretty cool havin a dad who rules the town...hahaha, and the rides home don’t hurt either.
