Day 10 - 13 July 2005 São Domingos - mangos, coconuts, cobblestone and hiaces so S.D. is BEEEEAUTIFUL! all but one street is cobblestone, the preferred choice of transportation is the Toyota Hiace (van that seats 14-25 in 4 rows of seats which makes for fun and intimate rides), and all of the interspersed trees are mango and coconut trees, while the surrounding mountains are beautiful and brown. apparently, we brought the rain when we arrived (the rainy season is just starting) and about an hour or two of light drizzling has had an immediate greening effect on the brown valley and surrounding mountains. it’s great. the dormant foliage is now in a spring-like state with small buds of light green baby leaves stretching out from the branches. amazing. the folks here are all pretty nice too as everybody says bon dia and bo tardi. I guess they’re pretty used to havin us around since this has been the training site for the past few years. so everybody goes home for sesta- lunch & a nap, but my lunch gets brought to me since I live so far away. RIDICULOUS. my 11 yr. old bro walks 40 minutes with a heavy arse basket of food that is about twice what I can eat at dinner. in-sane. so much for losing 20 lbs.! I can barely get away from the dinner table without eating thirds. I will prolly never eat enough in mom’s eyes...from what I hear, mom is a superb cook too-yay! in other news, since the hostel, we’ve gotten about 5 more shots...yowza! my arms almost crave pricks weekly now...altho I’ll prolly be the healthiest I’ve ever been here. <--- S.
