Day 8 - 11 July 2005 São Domingos - meetin the Fam After movin my 100 lbs. of crap one more time, I’ve finally arrived in a place where I can relax and not have to prepare to move again in a matter of hours...sweet. my host mom, Nanda is the bomb...she has a slight resemblance to Wanda Sikes and is really chill. she tells me I’m cute then tells another host mom that I’m "better looking than her son" in english! a roar goes over the crowd...funny mom. apparently she’s been a hard core jokester in the past. my family basically only speaks Kriolu which I know about 3 words of and feel like a complete idiot around them, especially when they wait for me to respond and all I can say is "fixi" which means good. the kids don’t even try to talk to me cuz they know we won’t understand each other. they’re all really cool ‘n chill and give me lots of space even though CV’s don’t have any of their own personal space. my dad is cool and is the authority when he’s around, but mom sure don’t take nothin neither. they seem like a really tight and happy fam. glad I’m with them, even if I live just under 2 miles from our training center and I hafta walk it every day. I want the walk, I love hikin the hills just to get home, altho I’m sure it’ll be a li’l inconvenient for kickin it after school. eh. so day 1 at home is a lot of quick two word sentences by me in Kriolu, then my mom sayin a sentence in Kriolu, then tryin to say it in english. how great. and check this, the fam sleeps at 9pm. and believe me, I follow with the quickness. I’m so dead right now...zzzzzz... <--- Praia at last                S. Domingos at a glance ---> |
