Cape Verde
Day 6 - 09 July 2005
Dakar - hotness and beautiful beach paradise at "The Resort"

so the flight to Dakar must’ve been a long one since I watched 3 movies and even got a half hour nap in. the plane was HUGE and the amenities brilliant. the staff all had brit accents- I was lovin it! the flight was basically a red eye and we should’ve slept, but nobody did. we land in Dakar with no hope of a connecting flight to our final destination and wait around for an hour or so before we go to a transit house where we can chill out and continue to wait for updates on the reappearance of our disappearing flight. good times. the part of Dakar we were in was ok, sort of on the outskirts near the airport. apparently there’s a HUGE downtown Dakar we never even knew about till days later. oh well, maybe we’ll see it on a trip to the continent. cards cards cards...make the time go by faster...distract you from the heat...and even make complete strangers bond over something...gotta love cards and card games like hearts, spades, yuker? and @$$hole...gotta love the regional differences in rules with each game too. findin beauty in diversity applies almost everywhere in life...at least in the U.S. we’ll see how that pans out over here (if at all). so the transit house- just like a real world house, just not as nice, and without all the explicit viewing material. although with a bunch of 20-somethings, it does sorta feel the same.
so after finding out our flight is still in nonexistence, we are moved to a hotel on the beach, Dakar Resort I call it. all our meals are provided, there’s a pool and plenty of chairs to chill on, not to mention a beautiful beach out back with li’l woven tiki hut umbrella lookin things. soooo nice…so my roommate and I blow a fuse in our room twice tryin to use our American surge protectors to protect our electronics only to find that we can just plug them directly into the converter no worries. all good, altho we’re sure the maintenance team hates us-oh well. our final night there, we meet these rasta lookin drummer dudes who invite us next door to their drummin session and a bunch of us go to check it out- some dance, others drink, and I end up stickin around with two girls who are gettin their mack on with these two Senegalese- give in to the power of the tea...hahaha...good times were had and we roll back to our pool where the rest of the crew is hangin out and just waitin for a couple more hours for our flight. even in the cool hours of the late evening/early mornin, the heat is up and the flies are rampant. gotta love Africa.
so check this (and the pictures later) USE BUG SPRAY at night in Africa. my legs EATEN UP LIKE NO OTHER. I have about 50 mosquito bites all over my arms, neck and legs. thank goodness for malaria pills. this alone creates a parabolic increase in discomfort causing a downward spiral of discontent. my body begins to hate me and expel all I take in out in liquid form minutes after it enters TMI?. the food has been great here at the Resort, but my body needs some bacteria adjustment.. I’m sure it’ll just be a matter of time...as always...CV, here we come...
